Speculation has been rife among fans regarding Kenny Omega’s potential need for surgery following his diagnosis with diverticulitis, and it appears that a decision has finally been reached.

Initial Diagnosis
Omega’s last appearance on AEW Dynamite was noted on December 13. Had he not been diagnosed at that juncture, the prominent wrestler could have faced the risk of a blood infection, with a mortality rate estimated at around 50 percent.

At the time of his diagnosis, Omega was involved in a storyline alongside Chris Jericho on AEW television, with plans for a match against Ricky Starks and Big Bill at the Worlds End pay-per-view event slated for late December.

Current Status
In the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that while a definitive decision is pending, there’s a growing likelihood that Kenny Omega will undergo surgery on his intestines. Despite enduring fluctuations in his health, Omega has been grappling with significant discomfort for several months.

Omega himself has acknowledged that surgery is increasingly appearing as the most viable option, especially after receiving recommendations from two medical professionals.

Meltzer elaborated, stating, “While it’s not an absolute certainty that surgery will take place, indications suggest it’s becoming more probable, particularly if Omega wishes to regain his fitness and resume his wrestling career. This may entail the removal of perforated sections of his intestine and colon.”

Despite his health concerns, Omega is set to continue his ongoing storyline on television, which will see him enter into a feud with Kazuchika Okada upon his return, following his temporary replacement within The Elite faction.
