AEW Star Garners Plenty of Backstage Praise Post-Revolution Match
The first AEW pay-per view event this year, Revolution, was a huge success for the event as it launched the company’s new direction in anticipation of Wednesday’s Dynamite. The event also included Sting’s retirement show.
AEW Tag Team Champions Sting and Darby Allin beat the Young Bucks in Tornado Tag Team Match to keep their title in the main event. Meanwhile, the Co-headliner also resulted in World Champion Samoa Joe retain his title over Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page in a triple threat match.
The show included Will Ospreay beating Konosuke Takeshita in his debut AEW fight as a fully-time contracted athlete. The match attracted the attention of numerous people in the audience on the night despite only having on a handful of matches before while being contracted to NJPW.
Dave Meltzer noted in a Wrestling Observer Daily Update that “another big thing noted to us was the reaction of the stars from the past to Will Ospreay, and the match with Konosuke Takeshita” because a lot of people who were working for decades have never witnessed Ospreay’s performance. The article added that “They couldn’t believe how good he was.”
Many former wrestlers were present at the show to cheer on Sting. Ospreay is scheduled to join Kyle Fletcher on Dynamite this week.
