MJF Shoulder surgery, he may face an absence of nearly a year

The shoulder injury MJF has been suffering from could keep him sidelined for a longer time than he had hoped.

The build-up

MJF was a participant in during the AEW Worlds End pay-per view event and was injured after he fell short of in the AEW World Heavyweight Champion to Samoa Joe in the main event. Before the fight, he was struggling with an injured labrum as well as hip injuries.

The injury was sustained by him performing an elbow fall off the top rope onto the ground during the Jay White match at Full Gear earlier in the month. Before the show it was believed that he’d take the time off after it was was confirmed following the show.

An earlier update mentioned that MJF was weighing whether or not to have surgery. However, should be he undergo the surgery, AEW will be without his for a while.

Reality

In the most recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated that “He’s hoping to get it healed through rehabilitation rather than surgery, as surgery could put him out for a long time, according to his doctor, and that it could take up to a year away that he would like to stay clear of.”

As of now, MJF and his doctors will decide which direction he will take as AEW is looking to build on the momentum built by Joe who was its World Champion.
